Aboriginal people would often travel incredible distances to source the best ochres for various different uses, including painting. In fact, western cultures have also used these same ochre pigments to develop oil and acrylic paints in modern times. Where Indigenous Australians combined ochres along with a range of organic tree resins, or with animal-based fats/oils to bind the colours and preserve the paint, western producers instead used acrylic chemicals, natural oils (often linseed), and water solutions to achieve the same goal.
Today, this paint is used by some of the most impressive indigenous artists around Australia due to its unique formulation; longer working time; and excellent lightfastness and permanence. These professional acrylic flows use the purest pigments and highest-grade ingredients to ensure there is virtually no shift in colour and all the colours remain as true when dry as they are wet.
