Open Retardant Slow Drying Medium Global Colours Professional - 1 Litre

Global Colours Retardant Medium is crystal clear additive to increase 'wet edge' and extend the drying or open time of the Global Colours acrylics and mediums. Retarder is ideal for producing wash effects with water, stain-painting and hard-edge techniques, as well as antiquing and other folk art techniques where increased flow is required.

The climate of ones environment will effect the speed at which paint dries. When humidity levels are low, as occurs with central heating and air-conditioning, paint will dry faster.

To extend drying time:

- Mix Retardant Medium into paint, with no more than 10% medium to paint ratio, or problems such as shrinkage and poor adhesion may occur.

- Retardant Medium can be applied to an area prior to painting, for wet-on-wet techniques. It may by added to paint by dipping brushes into it as you go or added to mixing water.

- Keep paint film moist using an atomizer spray bottle filled with straight water, or Retardant Medium mixed in to water.

Global Colours Retardant Medium combined with water will produce brilliant wash effects and watercolours and adding Global Colours Spreader Medium will leave paint more water sensitive.

Oil painters will find Retardant Medium helpful in use of normal blending techniques,. Blending of gradation may be made wet-over-dry, as well as wet-on-wet. due to its wetting properties it is also ideal for pasting powdered pigments.

Please note that Retardant Medium is a concentrated product and should be used sparingly. Paint containing Retardant Medium may appear to be touch dry but can be reactivated, by water or the moisture in your hands. It can take up to 5 days to cure completely, unless forced dried with a heat gun or heater. Any varnish should be carried out with this in mind.

Clean all equipment with soap and water.

This medium is compatible with the range of Global Colours acrylics and other mediums, working together to create a highly versatile painting system for all artists. Not formulated for use with other brands of acrylics or mediums.
